Works Great, Glad to Be Doing Something Decent for the Planet
Yes, it's true that it's not truly compost. But I am vegan and go through pounds of organic produce which had been previously all going into the landfill because of my condo living. The machine works well to dehydrate and grind the material which I can add to my raised garden bed. I am really amazed by how well it works and I am grateful for the opportunity to do something decent for the planet. One thing I will mention - I have it in my cupboard under my sink and I had no idea how high the water content is in all this vegetal refuse. It caused a modest amount of condensation in my cupboard so I run a batch each night with the cupboard doors open and there is no problem. Read the product information if you have any doubt about the contribution of rotting organic material in the landfill to global problems.

not what you think
I am very disappointed in the food cycler. It says it's a composter. To me the definition of compost is decayed material that looks like dirt. When I use the cycler the compost comes out crisp & stuck to the sides of the machine. I have to pry it off the sides. I have even had to soak the container to get it off. All is does is dry, cook and shred the food scraps. I used some of the "compost" when I repotted my tomato plant. It doesn't seem to like it very well. The leaves are all yellow. This would be good for anyone who is just looking to decrease the volume of food they throw out. I would not recommend this to anyone who is looking for real compost. This is a very costly mistake.

A handy kitchen appliance.
This is a machine that is so easy to use, and reduces kitchen waste to a very small, dry pile of (hopefully still nutritious) composite that is easily mixed into potting soil or dirt.. From another reviewer I had the impression that it would be noisy during the grinding process -- not so! Not, at least, during the times I've used it, which, to be honest is only twice so far. It seems to be very well made, although there is a blackish blemish on the top of my machine above the signal lights that seems to be inherent in the plastic part. It doesn't affect the working of the machine whatsoever.I'd like to put forth a suggestion: it would be helpful for the publishers to increase the font and use black letters when writing the next version of the user's manual and 'cheat sheet', as well as making the language a bit simpler, if possible. I got the impression the manual was written from a translation of a different language, and the 'Important Notifications' (i.e., 'cheat sheet') was difficult to read due to the small green print. Not all of us have great eyesight anymore.I trust I'll be using this Food Cycler for quite a few years, and I hope the filters won't be too expensive and make me regret the decision to purchase.

Love the way it works the first 6-7 loads were ...
Love the way it works the first 6-7 loads were perfect No smell what so ever the food came out dry and brown from bark like consistency to a dirt like consistency. My goal was to try to get through a 5 gallon bucket of food scraps saved from two months of saving vegetable food scraps. As I got to the bottom of the barrel the nasty part The food cycled started spewing Cider vinegar steam. Considering this is two months worth of food scraps Technically I suppose you could say that the filters lasted around a simulated month, but considering I ran the loads simotaniously it for 3-4 days it's Way too early to be buying a new set of filters for 25 bucks, ! Perhaps I'll just put the thing in the garage so I don't have to smell it! it still dries and dries the food scraps saving time inside my out door composter.

pricey for something that only worked for 6 months!
absolutely loved this thing.. Until it stopped working. should have lasted longer than 6 months in my opinion. I was not given a link to contact vendor about my problems - so I guess I am stuck with a hunk of junk. Too bad - I REALLY loved it when it was working!

very good piece of equipment for composting
I receive my food cycler it was relatively easy to put together putting the caps over the filters was a little difficult but with a small amount of oil they slid on very easily. Using the food cycler is easy. I wouldn't recommend any kind of newspaper clippings or anything that can get jammed up in that system. straw isn't good either unless you grind it up first gets caught up in the machine stops. I've had it a little over a month and have already filled 25 gallon buckets with finished compost. I haven't made any compost tea yet but will try that next I would totally recommend the system as far as up to know its work great and no bad smell whatsoever. I have ground up then dried coffee grounds eggshells and other food waste have not tried bones though I believe this would get jammed up but other than that it works well and it's quick and clean

WE love this machine
WE love this machine, and so we order another. With five adults, it's a must, with produce canning and etc this will be very exceptional. This machine does everything is says it does, it is so quite, a person can put it in their bedroom and not hear any noise at all, and, it does not smell. We firmly believe each home should have at least one, and each apartment should as well. The land fills wouldn't know what to do without this added weight, of waste or smell. With all the produce I grow, this will be a very good assets to my gardens. It doesn't take long to have a nice container if compost . Its wonderful. To those who are leery about the purchase due to the price, I can only tell you that it is well worth it. The pay off is wonderful, and it truly is quite, and order free.

A truely wonderful investment.
I am only rating this a one star because I did not purchase this item and amazon insists I write a review. Although I did buy this machine from a store (not on-line), if you do not like to waste uneaten food and wish you could put it to good use and love to do gardening and grow your own fresh produce without harsh/harmful chemicals...this machine is such a wonderful buy. It is expensive but to me worth it in the he end knowing that I can control what nutrients go into the produce I grow. Just don’t forget to take the sealant stickers off of the charcoal filters before first use! This mistake will ruin your investment and you may not find someone who can repair it.
