I have had Drinkwell fountains for years and years. It's the only fountain brand that lasts for me. These filters are perfect. Most Drinkwell fountains can use these filters or the Drinkwell Platinum Premium Filters. I buy both depending on the price at the time since mine can use either.I own the Drinkwell Multi-Tier Pet Fountain and these are the filters that come standard with it. These filter the water really well. You can see the gunk and hair stuck on it when you change them. It's quite disgusting. I have a multi-cat house and the filters still only need changed about monthly. When I see the fountain getting a little gross after a week or two, I dump and clean it, and then I rinse the filter out with cold water and reuse it. This makes the filter last longer. It is not usually gross until at least a month in. If you clean the fountain weekly or even every two weeks, the filters will last longer. You have to rinse this first really well in cold water before putting it in the fountain. This removes the loose black particles so they don't end up in the water.Installation is super simple. The way the filter gets put in depends on which fountain you own. In my fountain (Drinkwell Multi-Tier) the filter goes in with the black side facing the back. This looks off since the other fountains I have owned you have the black side facing you. The way my fountain is designed though makes it the opposite. The water needs to enter the white side and come out of the black side no matter what fountain you own.I love these filters and will continue to buy them. The price is great for about 3 months of use. Such a small price to pay to give your animals clean water.

Mostly Hits—One Miss
These substitutes for the name brand would have been perfect if all the seams had held together. I didn’t understand why there were pieces of charcoal rolling around the bottom of the second bag I opened, as the first had been perfect. The first of the three filters in the second bag worked just fine, but then I noticed the split seam in one of the other two remaining: charcoal was spilling out everywhere, rendering it completely useless. I pushed that one aside, and out of desperation, went for the last one. The floss barely held together—it did not come apart, but it became very thin—perhaps there was less of it to begin with, and I didn’t notice at first, but there was startling less of it when it was soaking wet.In fairness, everyone has a “bad day,” so I reordered to see if the mishap was just a fluke. It appears to have been just that. So far, everything is working like a charm, and quite frankly, you can’t beat the price. I would recommend these water fountain filters to anyone who loves their babies as much as we do to give them fresh water, but wouldn’t mind saving a few pennies here and there when possible.

The Real Thing...and It Matters a Lot!
These Drinkwell fountain filters are the real thing, manufactured by Drinkwell for its pet fountains. Sure, they're a bit more expensive, but isn't your pet worth it? I know my gorgeous Maine Coon is! I'd pay anything I could afford to keep him happy and healthy, and I want him to have the cleanest, safest drinking water possible in his fountain, which he loves, by the way.Previously, I'd been confused and purchased some knockoff filters. They fit, but they didn't filter his water as well as the signature Drinkwell, and filtering his water is very important to me. Cats in the wild don't drink much water because they get their fluid from a fresh kill (hey, they are descendants of lions!), but cats who've learned to live indoors must have a clean adequate supply of water near their food station so they are encouraged to drink.Cats also retain enough of their wild instincts that they like running water, which they know to be safer than stagnant water, so Drinkwell fountains are ideal. The knockoff filters worked somewhat, but not nearly as well as the real thing, i.e., the filters manufactured by Drinkwell, itself, and "somewhat" just isn't good enough for my cat. Drinkwell filters are thick and last for quite some time. (Don't keep them in too long, though. All filters will degrade.) I usually clean my Maine Coon's fountain every week and give him a new filter. Of course, I give him fresh water once or twice a day, depending on the weather.I will continue to make sure I buy the real thing, the Drinkwell filters actually manufactured by Drinkwell specifically for their fountains. As a very loved member of the family, my Maine Coon is worth the extra money. Definitely.

Actual OEM filters for my Drinkwell Platinum Pet Fountain
I have had my Drinkwell Platinum fountain for over 24 years and in all those years, I have used a multitude of filters which I all thought came from the PetSafe vendor. Since I had anywhere between 2-4 cats simultaneously over those years and the filters were original, the fountain water stayed clean and would actually last up to 7-8 weeks (2 months). The filters use to come in a foil package with three to a package. I never paid attention to the design on the filter (6 squares or 2 squares). However, I ordered this 12-pack of filters and received 12 separate filters in a plastic covering. I did not realize that the ones with the 6 squares were knock offs and complete garbage causing the water to foam and foul with black mold within a few days. However, these filters come in a 3-pack and have the 2 squares on them which are as pictured on the PetSafe website. These are definitely the original OEM filters. My cats' water no longer fouls and I have been using the same filter for a couple of weeks now. I would never order the other filters again.
