As a first time nintendo switch pro controller buyer which is better, this retro controller or just a regular nintendo switch pro controller?
Can anyone tell me what the four lights on the bottom represent? The first is always on green light but I haven't seen any changes in the others
Will this controller register/sync up with retro emulators on android? specifically with the john ness emulator?
Will it work with iOS?

Pretty nice controller for fans of early '90s games

I'd been putting off buying one of these for a while, but the N64-esque translucent green plus hall effect joysticks were enough for me to finally pull the trigger. It helped that I had gift card money and the tariffs scared me into grabbing this before it was too late, too. I realized I'd be unhappy never getting one if it came down to that.Connecting was simpler than expected and the instructions to switch from d-input to x-input are written on the back of the controller itself, which is very neat. X-input is better for Steam/PC and proper haptic feedback, but is limited to only four (4) controllers total, with the controller's assignment number lit up in green on the bottom of the controller like you'd expect from a modern Xbox or PlayStation controller. The buttons certainly feel like SNES buttons, though the four action buttons actually feel more solid and springier which is really, really nice. I never quite liked the feeling of a worn SNES controller's action buttons feeling thin and relatively action-less, so be prepared for a surprise there if you can relate with the worn feeling. The d-pad feels *exactly* the same as an SNES pad to me, so much so that I don't really even notice it, so props to 8BitDo on that. Most d-pads on modern controllers feel really awkward, like they're made only for menu selections, so it's a nice surprise to not have worries about the d-pad in the back of my mind while I'm trying to game. In some ways, this controller just disappears as you play, and I think that's a good thing if it's allowing you to immerse into the game itself instead of worrying about a controller being finicky. The only real surprise are the four L/R buttons, which really shouldn't be pressed with four fingers like you can on a larger controller. Here, the top ones stick out like you'd expect from an SNES controller, and the lower ones are really just there for compatibility more than anything. They are not pressure sensitive like GameCube and others, so that's something to be aware of, but they can read as a binary axis or as normal buttons depending on the connection mode you've set. I suspect for the few games where that could be a bummer there's some way you could set up a time delay in Steam to make it playable still perhaps. But GameCube and up really aren't the focus of this controller anyway. Anything from the '90s should be perfectly playable with this, with the joysticks perfectly positioned to make PlayStation fans feel at home as well.I'm pretty happy with the controller overall. It combines the compatibility of an Xbox controller with the nostalgia of the SNES layout, with a little PlayStation aesthetic mixed in for good measure. If you're looking for a licensed game to test this out with, I'm enjoying Axiom Verge paired with this controller.

really good 3rd party controller.

8bitdo controllers are all really good but I prefer the Snes style like this one. it's multi functional and can be used for steam (or other storefront) games on your computer, android games on a phone or tablet or even connect to a Nintendo Switch.love the transparent purple but wish they still made the classic rainbow button style.

Works with Switch 2 after firmware update!

Update to newest firmware (currently 2.06), power on, go to "Change Grip" on Switch, hold "Y" & "Start" on SN30 to put in pairing mode & it'll pair & you're ready to go!Soooo much nicer to play NES/SNES games with a proper D-pad & button spacing instead of using Joycons with analog sticks & bad button spacing.👐

Good for travel gaming and retro gaming

Solid little thing. Does what it needs to and looks great doing it. Bluetooth connection can be troublesome when switching devices but once its connected it does the trick. Maybe a little small for those with bigger hands, though. Solid value for the price

Fantastic full-featured controller for travel

Review is based on immediate impression -- Extremely lightweight, compact and full-featured, the perfect controller for travel. I recently brought a PS5 controller to play games on my laptop during a 13 hour plane ride, and while that solution worked perfectly fine, the controller was bulky and inconvenient to keep in my pocket as I was waiting to board. The SN30 Pror is the perfect size for that, and will easily fit in a backpack without taking up extra room. What's most impressive is that no features are sacrificed. You still have motion controls, thumbsticks and rumble in this tiny little package!

Great Computer/Nintendo Switch Controller

I bought this 8BitDo controller to use primarily on the computer, but I did see it also worked on the Nintendo Switch, which was a great addition for use. I picked the one that resembled the old SNS controller as that was easily a favorite controller of mine back in the 90's. I have the original SNS wired controllers and used that for comparison, and to me all buttons seem to function very similarly, The plastic seems a bit different but not sure if it is better or worse, just different, I did mark on star off for material as I was not sure if it is good or bad. This controller feels the same in my hands as the original, so the feel and grip is about on par with the original SNS controller.I do not have a mac and no longer have an android device so I could not test it on those, so reviews of it working on those devices would need to be written by someone who has used it on those.Game Play:I used it on several Nintendo Switch games as well as some of the classic Namco games on the Switch all of which worked well with no controller lag. I used it for Minecraft on the Switch and the Windows 10 version and both worked exactly the same with no issues. I have also used it for playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 on the computer with flawless operation. If there is any lag due to it being a wireless controller, I did not notice one bit.Battery Life:The charge life is better than the charge life on my Switch Pro controller. I cannot say for certain the exact time difference, I just know that my son needed to charge the pro controller while I was continuing on with this one and both had come off a fresh charge just before use and both with the same amount of play time as well. I did not play straight through as I do not play games 24 hours straight, so it was over several days of testing so, even at rest there seemed to be minimal battery drain.Suggested Improvements:My main complaint is something I knew going in and that is it will not work on IOS devices, there is a possible change to the device that is basically a downgrade you could get on it to make it work but why would I want to downgrade this if it works great on all other platforms I have tried it on. So my suggested improvement would be a new update that would not be a downgrade but instead would be an upgrade to have it work on IOS devices. There are so many games that I would love to use this on that I have on IOS. I do not want to by a controller that is specific to those devices when I have this controller that I would love to use on them.Overall:Overall the controller was better than I expected. I had heard of 8BitDo for some time now, but I figured it was all hype and that the end product would be very cheap, but it does not feel that way at all. This feels like a mainstream product that even has the coloring right to the original SNS controllers. Some people might not like the ergonomics of the controller, but if you do like that nostalgic feel of an SNS controller while playing newer games, this controller will not let you down.
