Massive book!
I was a bit upset/disgusted because the book originally came with a heavy film of dust on the top. However I cleaned it up. The images inside are crisp and clear. Appears to be no damage to the book, so overall, happy.

Required Reading for Legislators
When the Wind Blows was a gripping and harrowing read on the dangers of nuclear war. I found it so rewarding upon completion that I am of the mind that those in charge of the use of nuclear weapons would do well to read this graphic novel. There was also a film adaptation that fans of the graphic novel should check out with a David Bowie classic as part of the soundtrack to boot.

A classic
I first came across this book in 1994 when I was in Uni, when I discovered it in a friend's house. After I read it, I was so struck by the story that I knew I needed to get my own copy but never found it in any bookstore anywhere. For the past 16 years, I've been trying to find this book- that's how strongly 'When the Wind Blows' affected me. I finally found it on Amazon and after reading it again, am still struck by the beauty of the illustrations and the horror of war and how it affects ordinary people. When I turned the last page, I felt the same sadness and emptiness for the couple as I felt the first time I read it. The strength of this book is that it's written in comic strip form- the images will stick in your mind far longer than any words can. Therein lies the beauty of Raymond Briggs' classic- not only does the comic form simplify the telling of the story, it pushes home the point that these are ordinary, simple, village people, but because illustrations are used, it becomes a far more powerful story. I'm keeping this one and NOT letting it out of my sight! If I ever have children, this is one book I'll make sure they read when they're old enough to understand.

When the Wind Blows:my amazon experience
I have ordered a few things through Amazon and this particular item is SO SPECIAL to me I got three, the book, the vhs,&the dvd. I decided to get 3different types of the same item because I love this movie. As for my experience with Amazon, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND them. I have always been afraid to order ANYTHING ONLINE,I DIDN'T TRUST THE PROCESS. But, AMAZON taught me how to recognise a SECURE ORDERING SYSTEM ON SITES LIKE THEIRS.After that I ordered other items, all of which came in perfect condition, even one that had been labeled "USED". I COULDN'T BELIEVE MY EYES!!IT WAS LIKE BRAND NEW!AMAZON was recommended to me by MoviesUnlimited. They could not get these items for me and with unecessary trepidation,I gave. AMAZON a shot at my patronage.THEY HAVE YET TO LET ME DOWN.THE PRODUCTS I PURCHASED ARE WONDERFUL AND A NECESSARY. PART OF ANY FAMILY MOVIE AND BOOK COLLECTION.I would also like to add that I received a time&confirmation# for my order AND emails with the information on my items shipping progress, where exactly it was and exact day of delivery.I think I like that best, next to the great products I got.THANK YOU.

Edgy, Sad Piece of Apocalyptic Fiction in a Graphic Novel
Reason for Reading: I was posting a review on another site when this book was recommended for me. I'd never heard of it before but since I love apocalyptic books and Brigg's Snowman is a treasured favourite I knew I had to read it..The only reason this book doesn't get a full five star rating from me is that it does show it's age and is a product of its times. This is a sad, despairing, dark book lightened with black humour. It packs quite the punch and at the time it was written during the Cold War, when the Russian threat of Nuclear War was a real threat the book''s impact would have been even more chilling. One must first note that *this is NOT a book for children*. Briggs takes us from just before the announcement that a nuclear bomb is likely to be aimed at Britain to several days after the impact. At the centre is an innocent rural WWII survivor couple who don't understand all of modern day's technologies and still believe in the government taking care of its citizens. They have pamphlets, issued by the government, on how to cope during a nuclear attack and trust in them as they would the word of God, while in reality it's all rather useless and though they survive the bomb they unknowingly waste away from radiation poisoning. Their innocent banter between each other is compelling and heartrending and yet one must also place oneself in the past to the era the book was written in for it to be believable. The book is still relevant today, however. While Russia is not the big threat anymore, there are any number of smaller countries in today's world that have the ability to "push the button" and cause the same scenario of dealing with the fall out. While I think the innocence of this couple no longer exists in today's jaded world, it does make one realize the precious, innocent, beauty of Creation in all its aspects: human, animal and plant. This is a powerful, poetic book. I'm very glad to have discovered it.
