Q: Can this be used with mason jars to collect the honey?

If you are referring to the hive where the honey is collected by opening a spigot to drain into a mason jar, then the answer is No. This is a traditionally designed hive where you need to remove the frames and collect the honey through a centrifuge.

Q: Was this kit supposed to come with yellow food grade honeycomb sheets? Does it make any difference if they are yellow or black? Black retains heat.

Mine are also black.... The description does not say black or yellow although the pictures shows it with black foundations.... Most bee keepers prefer black so you can see eggs in the cells better. There is no performance difference between black or yellow foundation.

Q: Are these hives truly wax dipped (at high temperature to boil out moisture and absorb the wax deep into the wood), or are they simply "wax coated"?

These are wax dipped..... Hard to tell if they are they soaked in the wax till all the moisture is gone from the wood. I ordered 2 of these last year and they do not show signs of deterioration however some of the pieces are starting to gray from the weather.... Either way these are still cheaper than most untreated hives out there so the wax was extra fluff to me.
