Allows Consistent, High Quality Sharpening
This Knife Sharpening System is not for those that fumble with everything mechanical. Also, it is not the fastest sharpening system in the world. However, It does allow the user to consistently sharpen at the same angle on both sides of the blade, and you can get an excellent result given a little time. The version I purchased came with three sharpening "stones"; they are actually metal bars with diamond particles embedded on one side. The instructions are longer than required, thereby hiding the important points. The most important point to remember is that you must continue to sharpen with the coarsest stone until the knife is sharp. Then, you use the succeeding, finer stones to remove the tool marks from the previous stone. If the knife is not sharp when you stop using the coarse stone, it will "never" be sharp no matter how long you use the finer stones.

A great, well made and repeatable sharpening system
I have tried, and failed, to put a razor sharp edge on a few knives many times and wanted a foolproof way to get a professional result. I looked at many videos and reviews of various sharpening systems and finally settled on the KME. The very first knife I put an edge on with the KME was an inexpensive kitchen knife that would have had to struggle to cut butter. Now it's "scary sharp". I sliced a tomato with it so thin, that you could see through the tomato, with very little effort. I've sharpened several other knives since then and get predictable, excellent results. I ended up buying 2 more stones for the KME, a 50 grit "Beast" for profiling a damaged blade on an old Kbar I got when I was in the Marines 44 years ago, Then I used the diamond stones that came with the kit and finally honed the blade with another purchase, a black Arkansas stone. I then stropped the blade with a Stropman strop and fine compound. The knife has a perfect, even bevel from end to end and that edge is highly polished. I can shave hair from my arm with the old Kbar now. I am very happy with the purchase and would recommend the KME to anyone wanting a very sharp knife. Just make sure you warn the wife before turning her loose with the sharpened knife because those old kitchen knives will be like surgical instruments.

Excellent knife sharpening system
For the price of 140.00 this is a good buy for producing an accurate within 2 tenths of a degree of sharpening angle on both sides of a blade. The sharpening stones are larger than the Lansky sharpening system and the accuracy is a whole lot better with the spherical bearing rod guide. The blade holder clamp has a cushion built in to keep from marring/scratching the blade and has a tension spring knob to adjust clamp's rotational tension (adjust tighter for large heavy knives or looser for lighter and smaller knives. The wooden base does not come with the sharpening unit but is highly recommended for ease of sharpening than holding by just with the had grip. The stone retainer is easy to mount/remove the sharpening stone by just tightening/loosening the stone retaining knob. The picture I saw of this unit showed a brass knurled nut on the stainless steel guide rod but mine came with a plain hex nut. No matter, I just went to a hardware store and purchased a 8-32 threaded brass knurled nut which cost me only a little over 50 cents. All in all, I highly recommend this unit to those that sharpen their own knives and come out with a finish that produce an accurate cutting angle on both sides of the blade and have a truly super sharp knife over factory sharp.

The Best
I have tried numerous methods of sharpening over the years, but I never mastered freehand and most gadgets are only capable of producing an "ok" edge in my hands. I bought a Spyderco Sharpmaker a year or so ago but while I feel the design is pretty good, I just couldn't manage to produce an edge that satisfied me. I know many people have better luck with the Spyderco, but I guess I just don't have the steady hands necessary to use it properly. The KME, however, is Awesome. I bought the diamond kit, and even I can finally put a razor edge on almost any knife. The setup is well made, so far nothing ever wiggles loose and the jaws hold my blades securely with out leaving a mark. Is it spendy? Well, for me $140 isn't pocket change but it's well worth it in my opinion. I look at it as paying now to have sharp knives for years to come. I don't know of a better tool for sharpening that costs less. While I've never used an Edgepro or Wicked Edge system, I can't imagine they get things any sharper than this. I'm 100% pleased with this product.

Great sharpener! I looked at the Spyderco Sharpmaker
Great sharpener! I looked at the Spyderco Sharpmaker, the Lansky, the DMT aligner and the Edge pro apex but all had flaws where the KME did not.Pros of the The KME Sharpener system:1. Can sharpen large kitchen knives and very small swiss army pocket knives2. Made in the USA3. Guaranteed For Life4. rotating blade clamp (easy to flip from side to side)5. Rubber coated blade clamps (won't mark up your blade)6. I see no week points with this device. Every nut and bolt is metal on metal everything is designed to literally last a life time.7. A newbie like myself can make knives really sharp easily!Cons of OTHER systems:Lansky - Guide rods have to be continually straightened, Guide hole is too large and variations in sharpening angles will happen, metal clamp scars knives and cannot sharpen really large and small knives (to my knowledge)Apex Pro - is too expensive ($250)DMT aligner - loose guide rod clamps and cannot sharpen really large and small knives (to my knowledge)Spyderco Sharpmaker - a close second because its cheaper but requires steady hands and I wanted human error taken out of my sharpening equation
