Lonely Planet Best of New York City 2019 (Travel Guide) Paperback – 14 Sept. 2018

I've previously bought a couple of lonely planet books for my past 2x travels (Iceland & Paris). The Iceland book was fantastic but the second (Paris) was a let down, so I wasn't sure whether to carry on with the brand and get this one, but this book has redeemed the brand for me - exactly what I need and very happy I decided to go with Lonely Planet again!This guide is perfect for NY travel newbies. (I ordered this for a work trip/tourist on weekends that I will be going on at the end of Jan). It is very well laid out with further page/map grid references to cover any mentioned hot-spots in more depth later on. It also included 2019 events to look out for and some attractions that I hadn't found on other websites - thank you lonely planet!! :) Next to each restaurant suggestion is the price range (very handy!) and the pull-out map is also fab - I will certainly be using this to navigate my way around from one tourist attraction to the next.

Worth buying for a first-time visitor only. The guide focuses on the big-ticket sights, shops and restaurants, with some great offbeat recommendations (but few and far between). Also it has some good neighbourhood-based 1-day itineraries, but some of the sights included in these feel a bit like filler material.I had previously spent about 10 days in New York and was looking mainly for interesting shops and restaurants for another trip of 4 days. But I found only 1 interesting shop and 2-3 restaurants from the guide. We ended up using Google Maps reviews - these were surprisingly reliable for Manhattan as the number of reviews is much higher for many restaurants (in the thousands), compared to London. For restaurants I would recommend using Google Maps or say Frommer's guide. For shops I have yet to find an effective method...

Great book, great maps and also a pull out map. Would definitely recommend this book!

Super useful and excellent quality

Slightly dissapointing. Not as comprehensive as a guide I'd already got. If it wasn't for one section of this book i'd probably return it.

Perfect for planning a 1 week visit to New York. Not very detailed though.
