Valk is the author of The LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT 2.0 Discovery Book, a co-author of LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT One-Kit Wonders (both No Starch Press), and a contributor to The NXT Step Blog. Update from original book that was for NXT 1.0
My grandson and I have been using the original book in our weekly SKYPE robotics class. The projects were more difficult for him because he has the NXT 2.0 set that doesn't contain all of the parts required for projects in the original book. Now that the new updated book is out for the NXT 2.0 we will switch those projects for our robotics class. He lives in Florida so we have to SKYPE to have the class. We both build the projects and discuss them as we go along. Being more experienced with Lego Mindstorms NXT, I am able to help him through difficulties in construction and programming. I originally purchased the Mindstorms NXT 2.0 set as a gift to get him interested in robotics and now he says he thinks he wants to become a robotics engineer on land or in space. The Lego system helps develop eye and hand coordination and thinking skills to work through the programming. We use the NXT-G programming but I plan to take him into NXC programming in a year or two. I recommend rebuying the book in the 2.0 version.

Bought this used from an Amazon seller.It was as just like new and arrived pretty quickly.Our son has had his Lego Mindstorm kit for awhile and really likes this book.He built a working printer which was really neat!

More MINDSTORMS Ideas
This is a great book for MINDSTORMS fans who are looking for more ideas to develop their programming and building skills. I bought it as a companion for Laurens Valk's Discovery Book, another great resource. My only complaint with both books is that they aren't in color, which makes it a bit harder to tell which components are which; however, that's a minor gripe in a great book.

Fine Book
The next, next generation of LEGO smart bricks is due out fall of 2013, but for everyone with the NXT 2.0 this book will give lots of ideas for homeschoolers, classrooms, and hobbyists alike.

Great Guide
I got this book for my 6 year old "NXT crazy" son for Christmas 2012. He just loves designing new things with his NXT and gets heaps of ideas from YouTube. We've found that Lego's NXT website is a bit limited and this book covers so much of the basics and it's great to have so much information in one book. I was pleasantly surprised when I received the book as it's jam packed and more than I expected!
