Middle Ear Monitor with Physician-Accuracy

My child had prolonged fluid on both ears for many months, with recurrent upper respiratory infections over the winter--and each turned into an ear infection. I also have an otoscope, and when combined with its usage, I found this device to be useful. I used the fluid check monitor to see if the fluid was decreasing between infections or if it was remaining undrained. The results seemed very accurate. During his worst bouts of decreased hearing, it showed 5 (fluid very likely). It showed the same between infections. When he stopped getting any ear infections or bouts of decreased hearing, the monitor showed 2 and 3. And a few months after that it showed 1 (fluid very unlikely).There is a lack of guidance on how to aim it and hold the ear...it says to shoot it down the canal, but you just have to do your best to approximate the angle of the canal, then you're left to doubt if you did it correctly..but it seemed to work at multiple angles and get the same result.

I was duped by the 5 star reviews on here and bought this item. I am now convinced that these reviews are planted here by EarCheck. Don't believe me, read this:My son was having ear infections every other week, so I bought this item to save me the co-pay for half the trips to the doctor. He was very fussy all week, and every day it said that he had 0 ear infections. Finally brought him into the doctor and it turned out that he had ear infections in both ears!So I thought, maybe I had been using it wrong the whole time. I decided to do a test, I did 25 checks on both ears, trying different angles, etc, with the EarCheck to see if I could get it to say that he had an ear infection. 50 times in a row, the EarCheck said he did not have an ear infection in either ear, when I know he has it in both.I think was getting frustrated, so I stuck it in my ear, and it said that I had an ear infection. Freaking hilarious.You are better off buying a magic 8 ball and asking it than this joke of a product.

I don't know what distinguishes a good Ear Monitor from a bad one. Put it in your ear, and push the button and the device measures ear pressure. I take mine on trips where I will be flying great distances because I have inner ear and sinus problem at high altitudes on long flights.My doctor used one on me, and when I found out that they were under $30 I bought one for myself. This is the exact same model that my doctor used.

The product works as described. It definitely will let you know if you may need to see the pediatrician. Unfortunately my kid is terrified of the loud beeping sounds it makes while it is checking his ear. He is hyper sensitive to sounds so we have to hold him down to use it. If this product had a way to mute the sound I would give it 5 stars.

Usefull for toddlers. Helps you a lot with ear infections. Youare notgoing to the doctorfor every small inflamattion, and you know for sure when things are getti g worst. Grate and realy usefull product! Easy to handle!

I had been eying this product up for awhile, but have been hesitant to buy it due to the negative reviews I read. I decided to go ahead and get it from amazon since it was $17 vs. $49 at our Babies r us. I wish I would have listened to the negative reviews, this product did not work at all for us. I used the product on my 1 yr old son to see if he had an ear infection, and it said fluid unlikely. I then used it on my 3 yr old son it also read Fluid unlikely, but I took him to the Dr. and he has a sever ear infection. Every time I use the product it says Fluid unlikely. I have read the directions and am sure I am using it correctly. I am however glad I only wasted &17 and not $49 on it. Would not recommend to anyone.

not very consistent...

We tried it out on my husband, my daughter, and myself. None of us had ear infections but it seemed to work well. I got it because we worry about our daughter being sick and this is a good way to check without having to go to the doctor. I would recommend this if you or your spouse constantly worry about your child being sick.
