I've never quite grasped statistics. Throughout my undergraduate studies I didn't get it, and then during my postgraduate studies I felt left behind. I am now studying a for a PhD, and in my final year of study, after having Andy fields book suggested to me on countless occasions I have finally taken a step forward and bought is his book. It's literally been a god send! I am strapped for cash, but this book has been the most important investment in my learning aside from my tuition fees. Every bit as readable as i have been told. It is my new stats breakdown and recovery service...

I'm very disappointed that the actual disk had been removed from the book, this was not indicated in the description as you can see from the advert heading. "BUNDLE: Field, Discovering Statistics Using SPSS, 3e 'and' SPSS CD Version 17.0 (Discovering Statistics Using S"

Brilliant (or at least as brilliant as stats can be!). Easy to use and reference to the additional material contained on the CD Rom and website was very useful.

I bought this book with a complimentary CD with SPSS software. The software never worked- unable to install the CD.

I have always struggled with maths, I am a 28 year old "mature" fresher and have been out of education for over ten years aside from a brief access to HE diploma last year. Basically this book is the BIBLE for ANYONE wishing to learn how to work with statistics and to manage SPSS, even if the concept terrifies you! The book is well written and structured for all students, novice and advanced, and from a personal standpoint, I would procrastinate and feel overwhelmed when approaching a subject as complex as statistics and with anything involving mathematics. Andy has created a book that is bizarrely welcoming and friendly, if such a thing can be said of an academic reference text. I don't worry when trying to learn an aspect of stats/spss as I know Mr Fields will guide me through like a lamb! BUY THIS BOOK. SIMPLES

I wanted the book and could buy the full SPSS package from uni for only £20 so thought this was a bargain to have both. However, after installing this student version of SPSS, I tried to use my uni data but this version has a very small capacity so couldn't download my files. Also it doesn't run the syntax system which is short cut method of data querying. The book is good, just buy that on its own. The SPSS disc is too limited for my limited work!

SPSS/IBM does not care if you live or die. The SPSS version 17 student has an incompatibility glitch that throws up Error 1330. To fix this you have to register for their technical support which issues passwords based on your product code BUT YOU DO NOT GET A PRODUCT CODE WITH THE BUNDLE!!!! I have been in support hell for a WEEK. Just buy the book and PAY AND DOWNLOAD from the site directly. This is the kind of proprietary abuse that gets a program open sourced IT IS THAT BAD!!!! I will lobby to have this kind of nonsense removed from the school curriculum.

There are some funny examples in this, and generally has FAIRLY easy to follow directions for things you're wanting to for in SPSS. However, I DOOOOOOOOOOOOO hate SPSS and would recommend looking for a different program if you have the option. It is nice that this comes with the student version of SPSS. Know that this is adequate for many things, but it does limit the number of variables you can use.

Although Amazon was very considerate and helpful by sending me a new set of book and Cd the problem of corrupt CD still existed in the new one. As I needed to have the CD for course starting soon I had to order a new one from IBM who took over from Sage. Therefore I had to spend an additional 99.00 to buy new CD. I would have been better off buying just the book and saving myself the higher price of the combo. After 2 weeks I finally heard from Sage who said oops.( There had been no password for CD)

Andy Field explains statistical concepts in a way that are fun and easy to understand. It can be very difficult to make an often dreaded topic interesting and comical, but this book does just that. Andy Field has accomplished the impossible. This book is a must have for anyone taking statistics, anyone interested in learning more about research, and especially learning how statistical concepts and studies can be evaluated using the program IBM SPSS. No other book compares. I am a Ph.D. student so I know a lot about the books and resources available within this subject, as I have purchased them and utilized them for my courses. You will not regret purchasing this book. It is invaluable!
