The White Lotus: Season Three (DVD)

Season 3 is my favorite
This was the best so far, because I liked and cared about many of the characters. In previous seasons, most were unlikable. I also enjoyed how they captured the flavor of the place and it was not just a generic tropical backdrop but what was unique about Thailand permeates many of the stories. It was also very relatable. Especially love Lisa M. as Muk!

Can’t wait for season 4!
I loved all three seasons, Season 2 was my favorite. This series was kind of funny, sad, happy, a bit disturbing, unpredictable but always entertaining. The series settings were beautiful as was the music. Not for children.

Maybe we should all wait for Season 4?
Updated yet again -- Originally, I optimistically gave it 5 stars. Like so many other fans, I loved the previous two seasons. At first, Season 3 looked like it was going to be an outstanding season. But the potential sizzle fizzled. After watching Episode 5, I had to lower that to 4 stars. The episodes were dragging in some places where something much more dynamic felt necessary. The exotically lush green locale and weird wildlife just aren't good substitutes for a compelling story. The diverse human characters are interesting both individually and collectively, yet almost all of them seem slightly underplayed. This doesn't seem to be due to the accomplished actors themselves but rather the pacing and scripted dialogue. It seems obvious there's a lot of talent (or potential talent) that isn't being used optimally. Maybe the writers could have spent more time developing the episodes and made them less dependent on the travel amenities of Thailand. Though admittedly, it is geo-culturally educational. Also, during all the 'partying' in Episode 5, I'd never felt so bored watching people who were supposedly having fun. After a while, it truly felt like filler, lacking ideas for what the characters could be doing instead. However, having now just watched Episode 6, it's a total "no" for this season. Episode 6 was way more uncomfortable to watch than it was 'entertaining.' (Has anyone out there been yearning for a series to watch that has two biological brothers get involved with each other?) Even if the finale episode suddenly tries to redeem all that has happened (or hasn't happened) to this point, a person's patience can only be stretched so far. It isn't a terrible season of White Lotus; the one star is simply due to Season 3 seemingly not even trying all that hard to fulfill its potential to have been the best season yet. Updated update: Just watched Episode 8... ugh. LOTS of opportunities were there to do something better. The one star remains.

I'm Bored
I'm halfway through and don't know if I'll finish. The cinematography and soundtrack are gorgeous. The plots about Rick Hatchett, Tim Ratliff, and Greg Hunt have promise but the 3 women are boring and Saxon is both obnoxious and tedious. Now people are doing stupid things only to further the plot. A Thai guard leaves a loaded pistol on his desk so it can get stolen, a staff member shares personal details about a guest with a stalker, and then says there's nothing to worry about. Maybe it gets better in the end but so far season 3 doesn't live up to the first two seasons.
