Got it to work, but had some unexplained compatibility issues
I got this because I wanted to simply plug a USB stick into it with photos and have it play a slideshow. No sending photos via an app, no messaging photos or pulling them from the internet. And I didn't want to install an app on my phone either. It looked like at first I would have to install the app because the instructions said you needed it to pair the remote with the dongle. And when I first plugged it in, nothing worked, so I figured that was the case. However, this turned out to be something else. I plugged it into a different TV and it turned on and I could use the remote right off. No idea why it didn't work with the first TV.Then though, I couldn't see any photos on the USB stick I had in. The USB's light was on, so it was active, but nothing showed up. I tried another USB stick and it worked fine (both of these worked fine on my computer and both were formatted FAT32). All of the settings I needed for the slideshow were accessible from the remote, so yes, this can be used entirely without the app.The dongle seemed sensitive. Merely brushing it could cause the screen to go black and then come back again. The power cord seemed a little loose, so maybe that was it.I appreciated that they included a wall USB power supply. So many things just come with a cable now.

Turn any LCD with HDMI input into picture frame/video player
Aluratek PicStick adds picture/video viewer function to any TV/monitor with HDMI input. The setup is done via onscreen step by step wizard, and easy to setup.Remote control work as mouse once you press "mouse" button - convenient when you have multiple pages of pictures. You can upload photo/video from your phone via WIFI or use USB thumb drive. Picture and video look fantastic as I played on 10 inch LCD screen, but not sure how it will look on a big screen.Photo slideshow lacks control option. It changes about every minute, and there is no option to change time interval (either on app or on onscreen menu). You can manually press right/left direction button, but then it's no longer auto-slide show. There is no option to add "background music."Also when plugged in USB, I had organized photos under different folders. The device play all photo as if it's under a same folder. It won't let you playback based on folder level - bad if you are doing presentation for group meeting at work. and it plays your family vacation photos.... It also mixes up video and photo during slide show even though this device creates "movie" and "picture" folder separately when I inserted the USB drive. No MP3 playback.Video plays back fine with audio. I tried 30 minutes of video recording (1080p) of a camping trip with my church friends on USB drive, and it played well without any issue. Again, if you play slide show, this video will playback during photo slideshow.I understand this device is designed to display/playback whatever is on the storage, but having ability to display separately by folder level would have been a great feature.Another thing is I cannot get rid of onscreen time stamp. So during the slide show, you'll always see time on right bottom. It's well made/designed and super easy to use, with some desired feature.I recommend.

Overpriced flash drive.
So I donโt see spending $60 on a device that doesnโt do much more than a simple flash drive. Yes you can upload photos through the app, but you can only do 9 pics at a time and it takes close to 4 minutes to upload, so not very efficient. I was hoping there would be more functionality out of this for the price like being able to add music and make more of a fun slide show. So a very basic device with a high price tag.

Highly recommend it to anyone looking to transform their HDTV into a personal media player.
Easy to navigate and play my favorite photos and videos on the big screen. The image quality is crystal clear, and the setup was a breeze. I've used it to relive vacation memories, share special moments from birthdays and weddings, and even enjoy my favorite music videos. The PicStick is compact, easy to use, and the price was very reasonable. Highly recommend it to anyone looking to transform their HDTV into a personal media player.
