Better than expected
I ordered (Used - Like New) and they were obviously new and never used. They come with a clear lacquer coating of some kind that I removed with turpentine. I touched up the edges and they are made of high speed steel like advertised. They are small and I am curious to see if my grandson uses them when making his fishing lures. I gave him all of my top-of-the-line medium and small lathe tools after selling my old W&H lathe and buying him a Jet Mini Lathe. Frankly, I got them because they were so cheap and I was curious to see what they looked like.I am very impressed.I wish I could think of a good reason to buy myself a mini lathe and another set these tools for myself.

Nice quality
Great quality tools. Easy for the beginner.

Decent value
Not bad for the price. Nice storage box. If you get these, you'll need to touch up the sharpening a bit and use some mineral spirits to remove whatever protective wax/oil/resin they use at the factory. After sharpening, they are pretty comfortable to use for turning small objects. Handles and ferrules seem solid so far.

A great set for small projects
I gave this 5 stars out of simple cost effectiveness. It's a hell of a deal, but look...we both know that these tools are not going to be top quality. Do you want something that works? Here it is. I've used mine so much that I've had to sharpen them many times--a couple passes with fine grit sandpaper on a mold--and they're still going strong. Perhaps that's the drawback: perhaps the steel isn't 'hard enough' so that it does require more frequent sharpening.I've used this set for pens and small bowls, on hard wood and soft. It hasn't failed me.One tip for using the smallest gouge...place your toolrest close to the work piece or, because the shaft of the tool is so narrow, you may encounter some chatter.

A good set at a great price.
Wood case is a nice touch. "Mini" is perfect for describing the size. Works great for smaller projects on mini lathe and fine details. You'll likely need larger tools for anything over 4" diameter.

Three and a half stars, really--they're not bad (for the price).
I bought these (very inexpensive mini turning chisels) to complement a new mini-size lathe (these are very small chisels, intended for very fine work), and I like that they came in a wooden storage case, the handles are okay, and they seem to be made of decent steel. Like many tools with factory-honed edges, they are not particularly well-honed out of the box, and they are SO small that if you were thinking you were going to turn pens with these chisels, you might be disappointed. Because they are so small, sharpening them could be a bit of a special challenge, I think, but I'm definitely not an experienced turning-chisel-sharpener, so take that with a grain of salt. If I could rate them at 3.5 stars, I would do so, because they're not terrible chisels. I think that if they were properly honed, and used for suitable projects where very fine detail is needed, these could perform well. I ended up buying a set of three small Easy Wood Tools chisels (much more expensive, but still a fairly reasonable sale price) and I'm very happy with them, as a beginning turner.

Good product
Took me a few years to really learn how to use these. Bought them for a project they simply wouldn't work for. But since I've started using them for what they were designed for I'm having a blast and they are holding up well.

these are mini pen sized tools and they cut great right out of the box
these are mini pen sized tools and they cut great right out of the box.. they seem to hold up very well and rarely need sharpening when used on soft wood or resin.... i haven't used it on anything harder than cherry and hemlock but i would definitely recommend them for doing pens and small turnings.
