New angle for an old favourite
I didn't think this was as good as the first series but that was probably because when I saw the first series I had just completed one of the Jack the Ripper walking tours and it was quite a vivid recollection.I think that the overall premise for the series was a little bit far-fetched and the descent of the police commissioner character into the world of subterfuge and CIA conspiracies was pushing the envelope a little far. However, the way the storyline unfolded was well handled and the police characters were superbly portrayed, the atmosphere of intimidation and fear were palpable and the viewer could not only feel it, but could almost smell and taste it, as was the sensation of frustration felt by the police in their inability to crack the wall of silence.Overall the story is fast moving and entertaining and refers to events which many of the audience will be able to recollect. Take it at face value as entertainment and you'll get the most from it.

Maybe one copycat too many
Whitechapel Series 2 was definitely one to look forward to. As with the first Whitechapel the casting was excellent and the acting very good. To be unlucky enough to have to deal with two gruesome copycat serial killings, first in series one with the Ripper and in series 2 with the Krays, was however hard to swallow. Our Ripper expert from series one seemed equally au fait with the Kray story but at least this time the murderers were caught. Sadly, however, not before most of the intended victims were already dead. If there is to be a series three I sincerely hope the copycat theme is laid to rest. Despite this I can still recommend watching the series. The historical research was hard to fault and the production and direction were also of a high standard.

Great series
As I do not watch TV I decided to order series 1 and 2 of Whitechapel and I have not been disappointed. I prefer to view series without the mind numbing TV adverts and this is the best way!Series 2 The Krays all I can say is thank goodness there aren't many mothers like her out there! The boys did not seem so menacing but they were okay, their mother's lost the plot, the police were more together in this one but Penry-Jones still comes across as a 'hooray henry' not gutsy enough but maybe he gets better as the series continues. Overall it's worth watching, it's interesting to see bonds forming between P-J and his men. Good on a cold wet day to stay in and watch!

good edition. Had it been clearly written it had no subtitles it would have been better
Great Crime sitcom, super Rupert Penry-Jones. Pity it had no subtitles, always useful for non-native speakers

A fast Paced Drama
Whitechapel is once again plagued by what appears to be a serial killer. The team from the first series begin to investigate and are gradually dragged into the London of the 1960s, which was dominated by the gang culture of The Krays. All of the elements of the gangster world are there: seemingly random killings, corruption that goes to the highest levels, intimidation of witnesses and well placed informants who keep the plot moving along. This is yet again, a fast paced and enjoyable thriller. Although the plot doesn't have the kudos of the Jack The Ripper storyline, it is nevertheless interesting in its historical detail and keeps you guessing thoughout. A thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours.
