Avoid this product

The manual says to download the Kivic HUD app from android or Apple. The app was recognized by the android play store, but when I clicked on it I got a message that the app is no longer available. I found an app for kivic that was for Renault. After spending several frustrating hours trying to pair the HUD with my Samsung S7 smart phone with no success, I gave up. The kivic manual was no help. I suspect the company is going out of business. I sent them an email for assistance today, but I expect no response. I will update this comment if I do get a response that solves the problem. Since I'm two weeks past Amazon's return policy, there's a good chance I'm out $200.

A Very Basic HUD

I've used a few different HUDs over the last few years. I had a basic one built into my Mazda 3 and we had a Navdy installed in my wife's car. When I got a new car, I really missed the HUD, so I gave the Kivic a try.The Kivic is a very basic HUD. It can display some notifications on the screen alone with your speed. The speed is mostly accurate but it's based on GPS so it tends to be a off a mile or two an hour. The size is decent but there is a lot of wasted space on the mirror. Granted you can adjust the screen to change how big it is, but that's going to be useless for most people. Why? This HUD is WAY TOO LONG. It doesn't really fit in my car. I had to move my seat back and lower to see the screen, since I could not tilt the mirror back any more - the windshield was in the way.You can also mirror your screen instead of the HUD mode. I do not use this since it has some drawbacks. 1st it takes over your wifi to do this. It does not use bluetooth. 2nd it shuts your wifi off. I have a hotspot in my car that I use for work. Having wifi turned off is really annoying. The other big issue that it does not turn wifi back on after the HUD disconnects. If you don't remember to turn it back on, suck to be you.I ended up removing the apps ability to access system settings to prevent this. I only run the app via Bluetooth and only use it in HUD mode. If you do that it's a decent HUD.Here is why it's only getting three stars. Navdy beats this HUD in every possible way. I mean EVERY POSSIBLE WAY. The screen, size, functionality, connectivity, and easy of use. I cannot express how much better Navdy is. Only one problem. Navdy went bankrupt so the app is a ticking time bomb and there is no support.Second reason this is only getting three starts - the cost. This unit is far to expensive for what it is. If it was half it's price, it would be a great buy.UPDATE 8/20/18They updated the app and now it refuses to work without having access to system settings. This is really annoying. You cannot stop it from shutting off your wifi. I've tried overriding it with a Tasker script, but no luck yet. With this change, I cannot recommend this HUD to anyone.

Good Display in all lighting conditions.

Thanks to after sale support the HUD works very well. The instruction could be more precise regarding " KIVIC CAST " use for mirroring. I downloaded the additional instruction required.

I like it

The world of HUDs is getting pretty busy nowadays and prices seem to be all over the place. I've used the majority of the ones that are out and even made my own. Having said that, I think the Kivic is the best option you have right now, as I am writing this review, with some drawbacks.PROs:- Good quality combiner- Good quality components (video processing chips etc.)- Good quality display (same as latest OEM HUDs)- Clear image projected at a reasonable distance- Small form factor- Video input jackCONs:- The app is pretty confusing and doesn't always work- I couldn't get my Android phone (tried several) to cast to the device- Apple devices are pretty laggy when casting to the Kivic (Over 1s of lag)- No HDMI input (CVBS is available with some issues)CONs inherent of all dashtop HUDs:- Might not fit cars with sharply sloped windshields (sports cars)- Ugly to look at- The display is not shaded from the sun so it operates on high brightness most of the time, making a slight white box appear on the combiner (not fully transparent)- The units can overheat in extreme heat- Usefulness is debatable- Constant picture movement from road vibrations (perhaps the biggest drawback)So, why is the Kivic the best choice? Well, if you are looking for a HUD that displays somewhat in the distance this one has good components (see attached pics) and it offers a video input as well. It's also the cheapest of them all. Navdy is out of business, Carrobot C2 Lite is severely overpriced, Hudway Cast is a rebranded Carrobot C2, Hudly Wireless is not out yet. The Kivic will display speed, notifications and other useful info straight out the box. I wouldn't worry about casting from your phone as you will need apps that are built for the lower resolution display to make it truly useful. Yes you can display a moving map, but I am not sure how useful that is without being able to see street names or other details. Finally, if you decide to rip your dashboard apart and make this into an actual HUD, you have all the HUD components you will need. Connect a video source running specialized software and you are set. But you know, in case you are not up to a project like that, you could look for a cheap Navdy or wait for the Hudly Wireless which will have the necessary resolution to properly mirror a phone screen.Overall I am happy with the product and recommend it, provided you have the room and necessary seating angle to make this work in your car.

Fortunately, I had an iPhone and connection was much ...

I was ecstatic when I received it. However, connecting to android handphone was a hassle. Fortunately, I had an iPhone and connection was much better and easier due to Airmirroring. I thought that was the end of my nightmare. The following day, after connect with my iPhone, the Kivic randomly restarted. I bought this item hoping to keep my eyes on the road. However, due to the frequent restarting, I kept my eyes off the road more than i use to.The item is well built and the idea behind is good, but the software and stability fall short. What a pity ...
