It took a little while to start growing
It’s growing good, and looks good. We couldn’t get any other grass to grow in that shade

Poor excuse for grass seed
This seed did not even germinate the last two time I had bought it. Never again.

Very good grass seed..Please Read...Don't listen to bad reviews
First I'd like to say this is the most successful grass seed I have ever grown and the most durable. Second...PLEASE READ PRODUCT INFO BEFORE BUYING! Every negative review on here is from people who don't know what they are doing. 1st this is Northern grass. I planted this the beggining of March in MN the average temp was 50 during the day and it got snowed on twice. To the reviewer who said "it was 90 degrees and it didn't grow" duh it says to plant when it's 60-70 Also, yes some seed looks clumped or moldy it still seeds. You must WATER AND PREP SOIL. You can't just spread seed and water once. If you can't take the responsibility of caring for the seed then you must not want a good lawn that bad....also patience. Mine has been growing for months and it's still not ready. Grass grows at an average of like an inch a month or less...and this depends on temp, moisture, soil properties, sun. I water 2-4 times a day unless it rains and you need top soil...not much but you need it. So yes I give this product 5 stars because it is durable you just have to know how to care for it. This is expensive seed for a reason...it's hard to mess up it just needs some water and top soil and can't be planted in or during very hot months.Quit giving bad reviews based of you're own consumer laziness and lack of knowledge and research.

Sprouted in two weeks. Works best with added soil.
Location: Houston (yes I know it’s for northern lawns, but the area I’m planting this is not good for Houston st Augustine grass)Planted: January 4Conditions: first two weeks we got a cold front mid 30s in the evening through 50s. Third week back to mid 40s to 60s.Time to sprout: took about two weeks for the first few blade of grass to poke through. Third week about 70% of the grass seed sprouted. They are most dense where I added too soils vs the area that had denser clay soil but some are sprouting there. I over seeded the areas the first time and I reseeded at 2.5 weeks.I raked the area and made sure that the soil was loose. I added enriched topsoil with compost from (Houston garden center). The areas with about an inch of that had the most success. All that said I got about a 70% sprout rate in areas where I added enriched top soil and <5% in the areas that were just raked with little to no added top soil. The mix I have is in the pictures. I can’t tell which type sprouted as I’m not familiar with the varieties and they’re all fine blade grass.I’ll update the rating if the rest of seeds in the bald spots sprout... so far it’s in even.

It worked much better than expected
I watered it daily, including days it rained and it germinated in 4 days, I am shocked. It looks wonderful. I was planning to let the area spread out naturally but I like it so much I got another bag to fill in all of my bare spots.

Very Poor Results
I have planted grass seed many times and know how to properly prepare the soil, fertilize, water etc. The seed I received had an expiration date of the same month I received it. After a month of watering, I have a very poor stand. I water with creek water not county water, so there are no chemicals that could cause a problem. The grass that did sprout was very fine to the point, you can barely see it in the picture. This is after one month. I planted in the beginning of September when we had 90 degree days and 70 degree nights. That is ideal weather. The grass hardly seems to be growing. If anything some of it is dying. Last year I planted another shady area brand in other areas with no problems.

Impressive growth - Not just another grass seed
Chose this because it was the only thing rated for dense shade and some of my lawn gets even less sun that recommended on this product. The "water smart technology" did not influence the decision to buy this. BUT I am amazed at how much difference that makes. This germinated and grew faster that any other grass I have ever planted, and needed very little watering. It even managed to grow in the relief cuts of the concrete patio where the broadcaster "overspread" the soil. Before this I thought seed was seed, but I am convinced this is better. If I ever have to plant grass in my yard again I will definitely buy Scotts.
