Q: how exactly does this work?

Swtroom Snap trap comes with improved trigger equipment,after setting the rat trap,once something touch it,it will clamp it in a flash.And design with tight sawtoothes,no worry that rat or mice would escape.

Q: What do you use for bait

Peanut butter. Got 3 of them already!

Q: Does it kill birds? Don't want them to accidentally get caught.

If the bird is heavy enough to trigger the trap and wants your bait, then yes it would kill the bird. However, it is pretty unlikely that birds would go after peanut butter or blue cheese, which are the best baits I have found for Rats. If you put seeds in the cup, you might get a bird.

Q: What should i use for bait with these traps?

Cheese, bacon, etc. but so far these traps haven't caught a thing even though the trap has been triggered shut showing that something set it off by eating the bait.
