The Marine Corps Martial Arts Program: The Complete Combat System Paperback – May 8, 2016

The Corps has done a nice job on their program and the presentation in this manual is pretty good, (although it does not state it has been released to the public domain yet) oops. The program is laid out in an easy to access format which I like and makes a nice addition to the program as a whole ( I have seen the complete program printed and its over 1500 pages). I do prefer the Marine Corps approach to combatives as it keeps the pretzel fighting to a minimum. Overall nice job!

Though MCMAP isn't the best combatives system for self defense, plenty of its training (through instruction by the Marine Corps MCMAP Instructors) conditions the body well for the fundamentals of ground fighting and absorbing enemy strikes. Much of it feels like a crash-course Krav Maga with much of it being geared toward simplicity in movement (because Marines in a combat environment wear cammies, boots, a flak jacket, and Kevlar helmet). The system is primarily designed for constant study and practice (the cornerstone of getting good at anything) and the eventual development of an easily accessible "combat mindset" when instinct kicks in.

This book is a very in depth guide to the MCMAP. It covers techniques from the basic tan belt all the way to first degree black belt. Every technique is illustrated in concise black and white photos with text explanation as well. I am very pleased with this book.

73 now and wanted to update my former military training as a young man. Helpful to me and my grandchildren. Good visuals and written information. Well done-

the content is a little dated and the illustrations do not cover the various angles to assist in understanding hand placement and stance orientation.. but the narrative is pretty decent and though it could be found in PDF, I preferred a printed book format... The only issue I have is with the printing.. my book came with the entire book printed in reverse!!! page 1 is the last page of the book and the entire book needs to be read in reverse, messes with the mind reading it backwards and the pages are printed to the very edge cutting off characters on the edge of the page... I gave it three stars as I was not expecting much and it came as expected; the material isn't revolutionary, but solid information.....

Gave this to my son for Christmas. It was his favorite gift. He is off in Marine Boot Camp now and is interested in getting MCMAP black belt

The content was presented in a clear easy way. Material covered is valid and easy to learn and able to be applied after short training period.
