OTTERBOX Defender Series Case for iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 7 Plus - Retail Packaging - Black

I have always loved Otter Box phone cases. They do have a built in clear screen which I use a razor and remove. It’s hard to text and use the phone with their built in screen protector and your own protectors on. If you don’t have a screen protector on your phone than the built in protector in the otter box will work perfectly.jrb

The best overall phone protector IMO. Has a plastic endo-skeleton that bolsters the phone rigidity, and then the rubber part is carefully constructed to give the corners, edges, and back of the phone extra shock protection. The front has a thin plastic cover for the screen protector. Huge difference when setting the phone down in the car on something smooth and not having it slide around.The one modification I did was cut the little flip tab that covers the charging port. Understood this leaves the port open to water damage, but the last otterbox I had I kept the tab on, and the tab would press into whatever cable I was using to charge the phone. Over time (3 years) I noticed that I would have contact failures when trying to charge the phone. I think it might've had something to do with having the cables being pressed down and possibly causing the internals of the charging port to bend.Price for this one was good too ($40). Last one I had ran about $50.

It is exactly as advertised. Appears to provide more than needed protection. I find the screen responsive even through the plastic screen protector so I'm not sure why people are complaining about that. I also think it looks good as I couldn't even tell it was there by looking until later scratching the plastic. The only space I see is between the protector and the home button. The case was extremely easy to put on. It is big. No question. But I was able to slip it into my suit pant pocket and I don't wear my pants baggy so I think that people are kind of overstating things when they say you can't put it into a pocket. Now skinny jeans, or even tight jeans or pants, sure. I also was able to fit a 3rd party amazon branded charging cable through the hole in the case just fine. At $31.10 I think this case is well worth the price. Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that I agree with some of the other reviewers on things that can be improved upon in the future in terms of design. Chief among those complaints is ditching the cover that blocks the charging port. Simply not needed and annoying.

I have had this case for only a day so I'll try to make an update to this review at a later date.As of now, I really like this case. You can't really go wrong with an Otterbox. The only 2 cons I see at this moment are the plastic screen protector and the plastic inner part. If you have a tempered glass screen on your phone, be prepared to take it off. There's also some kind of air gap between the plastic screen and your phones screen. This makes you have to press harder on your buttons (if your touch actually makes contact). To fix this problem, I actually just kept my tempered screen protector on and removed the whole plastic screen that was originally on the case and now it's so much better. If you do this, be ready to get some glue gone. 😂 The plastic inner part that snaps together is pretty flimsy and thin. I'm scared of breaking it even though the rubber outside is covering it. Other than that, so far, I'm pleased with my purchase. ~

First otterbox. I usually go with soft cases. Heard good things & wanted the new phone to be safe. Sold & fulfilled by amazon. Cheaper than the store version. It was easy to take apart & put together. There is a thin screen cover. The plastic over the home button is even thinner. There is a bit of a gap between screen & protector, but works fine. Front and back speaker are open. The front piece is flimsy but assembled the rest feels sturdy. Buttons are a bit harder to push. Bottom speakers are open. The silent control and lithning ports are covered by tabs but are easy to open and align properly. I like that the belt clip doubles as an easel. Haven't dropped it yet so don't know how well it works.8-25-17 I've dropped it a few times and it's okay, not even a scratch or chip. With the heat and taking it off a few times, the soft shell isn't tight and doesn't cling on the bottom. Still seemed to protect fine.

For my iPhones I ONLY get the Otterbox Defender series. It gives great protection and comes with a built in screen protector so no need to buy an additional one that may be (at least for me) hard to put on straight and without bubbles.Not a lot needs to be said about this case, other than it does what its supposed to do. I am clumsy as the day is long and I have dropped my phone a bunch and this case has kept it intact.Like UAG, OtterBox stands by their products and will replace your case if for no fault of your own something goes wrong (like the screen protector gets loose or the part that protects your charging port is wonky etc) at no cost (aside from 4.99 for shipping). Their customer service alone is enough to make you want to buy this case.So if you are looking for a quality non bulky case that will protect your iPhone I would highly recommend the Otterbox Defender series case.

I bought this case 3 1/2 years ago, and it has saved my phone many times. Recently, the plug for the access hole for the connector came off. My experience getting a warranty replacement was painless. I went to the manufacturer's web site and filled out a web form. It asked for my contact information and the purchase date of my case. There was no requirement to send in the old case, provide photos, or, even, describe the reason for my warranty claim. There was a seven dollar charge for S&H. The new replacement case arrived promptly.

The best case I've ever used!!!!. I know its super bulky. Doesn't stay in the pocket properly and a hassle to remove out too. People see my phone and they see a brick. But what ever may be, the protection this cover gives is amazing!!!! I love it. I've used RhinoShield as well but I feel the defender does a better job. This is my feeling though.

Good case for keeping your iPhone safe. I’ve dropped my 7 Plus many times in this case on stone, concrete, carpet, you name it! My phone still works well.Only dropping a point because dust gets between my screen and the case screen protector where you charge from. This means dismantling and cleaning from time to time - nothing major but it makes the screen less responsive. Good protection though and less bulky than my previous Griffin robust case.

One of the best case I have ever used. I met with accident, and the phone was completely produced by the case. Will always recommend this product to anyone

When you first receive this item it really does look the part. Robust and durable in appearance and quality. It truly looks as if nothing short of a nuclear bomb will ever penetrate its rugged exterior. The inner shell is made from quality plastic and the outer rubber sleeve would absorb a drop from space. However, the love affair stops there. After installing my phone I became extremely aware of the flimsiness of the built in screen protector. It's quality falls somewhere between cling film and transparent freezer bags. The screen protector does not sit flush with the screen of the phone so when you're typing you emit an irritating tap. The only upside being that you can communicate by text message and morse code simultaneously. What I found most disappointing is this case is advertised with the intention of being suited to an industrial environment. The box says that the case is dust resistant. Yet after only one hour of using the case, dust had entered the case through the gap for the speaker and was gathering between the screen and the protector as per the attached photo. If this much dust can enter the case in a clean pocket, what is going to happen on a building site. The design of this product is sloppy and flawed. What designer leaves a big hole on the front of a case which purports to be dust proof? Removing the phone from the case is no easy task but with a design like this you'll be removing it every night to clean the screen. In this instance the case does not do what it says on the tin and has fallen short of my expectations from an otter box product.

This is the 3rd OtterBox Defender I have purchased for different phones because they are very well designed, excellent quality, give total protection and well worth the money.
