Prime-Line S 4048 Mail Box Lock, 3/16 In. Throw, Steel, Brass Plated (Single Pack)

We own an apartment complex with these locks on the mailboxes. They’ve been discontinued and are insanely expensive everywhere. These locks are a perfect replacement part for them and are a good price.

Almost perfect fit for my circa 1955 apartment mailbox. Aligned with screw holes, key aperture, and the strike hole. However, the tongue that goes into the strike hole was too thick. I had to flatten it by squeezing it in a bench vice.As noted in the product description, the key can only be removed if the mechanism is in the locked position. So it doesn't give you the option of leaving unlocked if you want someone else to access (unless you have the tongue protrude and rest it on the outside of the box, making the door tilt open and be obviously unlocked). Also, the key is not substantial, need to be careful not to bend it by twisting too hard in the lock. Had to flatten the key in the bench vice too, after making that mistake.

Does not Open very well once it is installed in Post Box.

I have an old house with the old brass mailbox that is built into the wall! 3 family home so 1 big unit with 3 compartments. Well this house has been in my family for over 60 years and YUP I was the one and only one that lost the key!!!!! Without finding this on Amazon I would have to get a locksmith or worse replace the entire unit. Thats for having this available. I bought 3 (just in case)!!!

These are definitely inferior quality. I have older versions of this same lock that have worked for years, and these are junk. I've talked to local locksmiths that refuse carry this style lock anymore because they can only buy this specific model and brand and they fail almost instantly.DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY

I like the price, I don't care about bad reviews every body is diferent, take your time installing it , with a long nose plyer open the the hole for the lock a little bed if you can get it line up and when it is installed make sure to grease it with plenty of Vaseline,I use a Q tip to grease it,follow this instructions the lock will less for ever, when ever you think is dry grease with Vaseline.

The lock body installed easily on the mailbox door. The lock cylinder held up for only a few weeks before the flimsy pressed steel started becoming distorted. Now any item that fits can be used as a key and turn the lock. It is now starting to fall apart completely. This appears to be a more decorative lock than a reliably useful one.Avoid it if you are using this for commercial or regular use.

Beau,bon et vaut pas cher...fait l'ouvrage mais...le lock de serrure est trop"loose"et ouvre pas si facilement helas !...
