I love this book
I love this book! It was my favorite growing up and every so often I would go to the library and read this book. I had my Mom copy the recipe so we can make the cake. A few days ago I was looking for some recipes to make for my kids, and I saw this one. I just had to get the book and show it to them. I think they love it more than me! I am very excited to make some Whopper Cake!

Ok book, terrible cake
The story itself is ok for younger children. Ours got inspired to make the cake. Recipe is at the end. Couple of problems. 1) huge cake (9x13). don't need that much around. 2) the cake is terrible. Perhaps one of the worst I have ever had. Read the book. Don't make the cake.

A whopper of a story!
My daughter (now seven) has loved this book for over two years now. She loves the story of the older man making a whopper sized cake for his wife's birthday. The exaggerations are comical. The wonderful illustrations really do the story line justice. Written in rhyme, this is a fun read aloud. The book has a recipe for a "whopper cake" in the back. We have made it many times. I always have to cook it a lot longer than it says, but it's tasty!

A Darling Book
This book is a fun, over-the-top read for kids of all ages. It is a sweet story of doing something nice for those we love, while getting into funny antics along the way. My daughter thinks the gigantic cake is hilarious and likes seeing the dogs helping out with the process in the funny pictures.

Gem of a children's birthday book.
Great little book--a hidden gem. My kids love for me to mystery read it to their class near their birthdays. Teachers love it for their libraries. Grandpa and his outrageously proportioned cooking adventure are silly and just plain fun.

Two sets of Grandkids Love This Book
When I ordered this, we already had already given a copy to my 5 (now 6) year old grandson. He loves it: the humor, the illustrations, the absurdity, etc. I ordered a second copy to give to my granddaughters who live out of town. They love it, too.

My two-year-old loves it!
This is one of my two-year-old son's favorite books. We first checked it out from the library, and he wouldn't let us take it back! We later gave it to him as a gift. Highly recommended for youngsters; the cake recipe in the back of the book gives the kids a chance to learn that cakes don't have to come from a box.
