Good raspberry Pi camera

This is a preliminary review since I'm not really done looking at the camera.Attaching the camera ribbon cable to the raspberry Pi 4 was simple enough even though I had one of those layered plexiglass cases that made it kind of interesting though certainly not impossible. I appreciate they included a case for the camera which will make using it a lot easier since I don't have to make that myself.First of all their instruction booklet told you to open up a version of a python editor, that is not included with the current raspbian. No big deal I opened up the Mu python editor, and wrote my code within that.that code was supposed to run for 10 seconds and then shut down it did not. That maybe an artifact of me using a different python editor. I will try other editors later. The picture quality is quite good for a cheap camera. it looks like it will be quite sufficient for what I'm planning on using that camera for as something to monitor my house for intruders when I am not there. (I will be able to watch my mastiff and terrier play tug of war with that intruder. Normally I just have a spot that needs to be mopped up)I think his camera will meet my needs quite well and will write more after I've had more time to test it.

Good camera

I was recommended this camera from an online forum and it seemed a good value for the number of items for the price compared to comparable cameras. I liked the fact that it came with two ribbon cables, one long which would work with my octopi setup. The kit all seems high quality, though the "stand" is a bit of an Ikea situation requiring you to peel 2 layers of protective paper from each individual piece, then try to assemble 6 separate loose pieces with 4 nylon screws using only photos from the Amazon listing and the tiny included screwdriver. I included a couple photos in the review to try and help someone assemble the stand, which I ended up not using in favor of a 3d printed camera stand. My setup was a bit trickier because I was using Octopi instead of a standard Raspberry Pi load, but it just required a quick ssh to enable the camera and an edit of the /boot/octopi.txt file to add the camera resolution and it was working great. Overall, very happy with the camera itself and long ribbon but the "build a stand" kit definitely loses half a star (If Amazon allowed).

Meh

So either I received a bad one or it's just not that great. When it works it's decent but I had horrible connection issues with it. Half the time the pi4 wouldn't even recognize it. I picked up a genuine Arducam which works flawlessly every time (on the exact same ribbon cable). So this one I guess will just be a backup or maybe I'll use it on my pi3+. To be fair, I didn't expect much in terms of quality but the connection issues really made it frustrating. For the record, I swapped this camera and the Arducam back and forth a few times on the same cable, same pi4... Arducam worked every time, this one worked once.

It works great.

I bought this as a replacement for an OEM camera I broke. I already had my printer kit setup for a camera, so this worked as a direct replacement. It really was plug and play. It was nice that this camera was already focused, because that's a problem for people with larger fingers. The little acrylic case is cute, but once again my meaty fingers made assembling in harder than it needed to be. Fortunately there's a video in the item description that shows exactly how it's done. It's nice that the package includes two different sized ribbons. Even so, I elected to use the longer one I had already purchased. If one needs to mount the camera further than 150 mm I suggest purchasing a cable to meet your installation requirements. Other than that, this is a very good value.

I love this kit!

I have bought many official RPi Foundation and generic cameras. This is my favorite. I love the little acrylic stand. I built this with my 12 year old and attached it to her AIY box. The stand is not adjustable so it's unlikely to be at the perfect angle you happen to need, but it's GREAT during the development phase to not have the camera module flopping around either staring at the ceiling or the table. This camera also works with the RPi Zero W if you have the right adapter/cable. (The two included are for full size RPi only.)

Great Camera for a PI

Overall this is a good camera for a pi. It comes with an extra long cable that is useful for maneuvering the camera into desired position. I was able to get the 90 fps @ 640x480 and the image was fairly clear. The 5MP image looks good as well without any modifications. The camera mount did not have instructions, but was fairly easy to figure out and works as good test stand. For the price with the coupon this is a great deal if you are interested in added a camera to your pi.

Camera hardware arrived defective

Item looked good until I tried using it with my raspberry pi3. I enabled camera & I2C interface, rebooted and camera not detected. I've spent 3 days troubleshooting, including reseating the ribbon cables and sunny camera cable, reinstalling Raspbian OS and ensuring my firmware is up to date. Only conclusion is camera hardware is defective.

Good

Good value for the money. Didn’t find directions to put together so had to look at product pictures to deduce. Paper was nightmare to get off acrylic pieces.I hate the ribbon cable as the camera and case are so light it decides what direction camera is going to go if you don’t have it glued down or mounted.Camera picture is decent quality.
