Only works if you add extra insulation
I purchased this brand because of the review by Max A. where he compared 3 of the top sellers. I wouldn't count this as the best. I've had this for about 2 weeks and it's been a journey of discovery. There are a lot of factors to consider when making clear ice and I've found that directional freezing is the most important. I should say here that I want clear ice, not mostly clear or 3/4 clear like some of the other reviewers have stated they get. I want clear ice! I've experimented with placement in the freezer, type of water and starting water temp. I've got an upright freezer that I keep set at 0 F. My first several attempts were complete failures, then I realized that placing the mold on top shelf where the cold air blows directly on it was freezing it too fast. I moved it down 2 shelves and put a piece of cardboard on the shelf above it to prevent direct blowing air. At this point I could only get 3/4 clear ice. I went back to the reviews and saw Doug Davis's comment about using the original packaging (Thanks Doug!). The original packaging has about a 1/2 inch of styrofoam which is more insulation. I cut the top off the cardboard box and cut the top piece of foam to fit in the bottom (helps raise the top edges even). Now my attempts were about 95% clear. I then switched from tap to filtered water which got me to about 98%. The next thing was to try starting water tempurature. I switched from cold water to room temp and that got me to clear ice. It helps if you can pull it before the bottom part freezes solid.I can only give this 2 stars because it doesn't make clear ice without adding extra insulation - and I shouldn't have to do that. We'll see how long the thin box holds up. On a positive note, the cubes are easy to extract if you follow the directions about soaking in hot water for 5 min. Also really easy clean up.

Works as advertised - revised from 5 stars to 3 - update at the bottom
This product works perfectly. I am following the directions to the letter and I get perfectly clear ice. The clear ice melts slower as well since there are no particulates or air pockets. Getting the ice out takes a little patience, definitely need to let the unit soak in warm water for a few minute before attempting to use the buttons on the bottom of the ice tray.I have been trying to figure out a simple way to get clear ice cubes and this fits the bill. The product is also compact enough that it does not take up a lot of space in the freezer. Like an earlier comment, I do not have a huge space in a freezer to place a cooler within a cooler and then the patience to carve out clear ice cubes from a large chunk.Like this a lot and would recommend it. Just be sure to follow the instructions. After 6 months of use the blue buttons on the middle section have stared to crack leaking water into the bottom section. This results in smaller to no ice cubes being created. Have been trying for two months to contact Epare to see if I can get a new middle piece. The first email requested pictures and an address and they said they would take care of it. Sent info as requested and circled the cracks in the photos. Multiple emails later there has been no response. I would be ok with buying a new replacement section but they are not responding at all. Pretty frustrating since I have really enjoyed my clear ice.

Crystal Clear Ice every time!
Simple. Easy to use. Very Clear ice everytime. I kept the packing insulation and leave in on to improve the top down freezing technique.

Eparé vs TrueCubes vs Glacio, and the winner is…
I decided to make a comprehensive review as I search for the best clear ice cube tray on the market. I chose the Eparé Clear Ice System, Glacio Clear Cube Ice Duo, & True Cubes Clear Ice Cube Tray as these seemed to look like the best ones on Amazon and were all reasonably priced in the $35-$40 range. The awards breakdown if you do not want to read the whole analysis:1st Place: Eparé Clear Ice System: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TV7JV232nd Place: True Cubes Clear Ice Cube Tray: https://www.amazon.com/dp//B07422QWCP3rd Place: Glacio Clear Cube Ice Duo: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N8JVBP1I will be comparing each tray based on the qualities listed below and start each rating at 2 points, subtracting points as I find problems, then divide it by 2 and round to the nearest whole number to get to the Amazon 5 star rating system.Packaging & InstructionsEase of filling & Water UsedSize of TrayEase of RemovingThe Ice! Clarity & SizePackaging & InstructionsEparé - 2.0I think this one had the best unboxing experience, I would say it was kind of like opening a fancy phone, the box was the same size as the True Cubes, but it has some padding in there to protect the product. I also really liked their image instructions versus the standard text ones, they have a link to their website there too which gives more comprehensive instructions. I added a picture of this.True Cubes - 1.0The box did not have any kind of padding or bag for the product inside and seemed to be printed wrong as the flap opened from the back so I will take .5 off for that. The instructions were clear but mostly text so could be more visual, .5 off for this.Glacio - .5It came in a box, that’s about it. It is a simple black box made from cheaper cardboard as you could see the ridges through it, no additional protection or bag, no instructions either.Ease of filling & Water UsedEparé - 1.5I used a little bit less than 2 cups to fill the tray full. As far as ease of filling, I think it was pretty simple, but I think if they would put a fill line inside the tray so there wouldn’t be any spillover than this would help, also maybe connecting the chambers below, the other designs did this. I will take .5 off because it can be improved on the ease of filling. I decided to also weigh the amount of water used per cube versus the final cube weight. Total weight of the water was 852g so per cube it's 212.5g, the final cube weight was 115g, so about 54% of the water used towards the end cube.True Cubes - 1.25So I did not have enough measuring cups for this, but I would say it used about 5 cups of water, as both of the 2 cup ones I used were full, almost to the brim. This is using about 1.25 cups to make each cube. As far as ease of filling goes I feel like it could have used some fill lines as well, but the inner chamber is connected for easier filling so I will just take .25 off. Weighed this as well. Total weight was 1038g so per cube its 259.5g, the final cube weight was 120g, so about 46% of the water was used towards the end product. Close enough to the Eparé but still more waste, so will take .5 for this.Glacio - .75Used 3 cups here for 2 cubes, so about 1.5 cups a cube. I would still say that these could use a fill line, but due to the enclosed shape moving these to the freezer was much easier, so I will give this just .25 off here. Weighed this as well. Total weight was 812 so per cube its 406g, the final cube weight was 105g, so about 26% of the water was used towards the end product. By far the worst of the three as war as waste goes, so 1 point off.Size of TrayEparé - 2.0Hands down the most compact design, no comments of suggestions here! I put a photo of how much room these took in my freezer and also comparing to a milk carton.True Cubes - 1I would say this an okay size since it is still producing 4 cubes, but there is obviously a lot of waste in size here considering that the Eparé tray is probably about half the size. I will take 1 point off here for those concerns.Glacio - .5This is definitely the biggest of the 3 for the output of just 2 cubes, I could not fit it in the lower section of my freezer and barely squeezed it into the top part. So this is going to get my lowest rating, subtracting 1.5.Ease of RemovingEparé - 1.5I put some warm water in the container and let it thaw out for a couple of minutes, the soft bottoms make it easier to remove from the structure, but it does take some time. It could be improved if there was a way to not have to wait to thaw out the tray.True Cubes - 1.5I did the same warm water trick as for the above and since the whole body is soft I would say it was relatively easy to remove, still needed a bit of time to thaw out. So I would say this is the same ease as the Eparé modelGlacio - 2.0By far the easiest, it did not require any thaw time. I was able to slide the top part of the tray out right after taking it out of the freezer.Clarity & Size of IceEparé - 2.0Kept in the freezer for 35 hours and used bottled purified water. Produced a proper 2x2 inch cube. The weight of the cube was 115g. The ice had some slight lines in it but hardly noticeable, would say it’s a perfect 2.0 here.True Cubes - 2.0Kept in the freezer for 35 hours and used bottled purified water. Produced a proper 2x2 inch cube. The weight of the cube was 120g. I noticed that the bottom of the ice in the reservoir was still not full frozen which seemed odd to me after so long in the freezer. Still would give this a perfect 2.0.Glacio - 1.0Kept in the freezer for 35 hours and used bottled purified water. The cube is a little under 2 inches, looked like 1.75. By weight it is 106g. I noticed that the bottom of the ice in the reservoir was still not fully frozen which seemed odd to me after so long in the freezer. There was also an ugly seam on the ice and it really was not as clear as the others. Going to deduct 1.0 for the clarity, seam, and slightly smaller size.SummaryEparé - 9.0/2=4.5Overall this should be the one everybody buys, its the right price, the right size, the right everything really. Maybe they can make some slight improvements, but this is the best in class.True Cubes - 6.75/2=3.375These are okay, and just okay, since the Eparé ones are the same price there really isn’t much reason to choose these.Glacio - 4.75/2=2.375The cheapest and the worst, I think these were the first to market, but they definitely did not care about perfecting the design, plus there are a lot of similar styles to these on amazon, would not recommend.

Doesn’t work
I bought this ice mold earlier this week and have tried making clear ice THREE TIMES. None of the ice has come out clear. I’ve made clear ice myself before with a small ice chest and that worked 10X better than these ice molds. I’ve even tried using other water such as tap water and bottled water and it made no difference. I wish I could return it but unfortunately I’ve already thrown away the box.

Compact clear ice maker for those without the room (or time) to use the cooler & cut method
My experience thus far is that the system will make 3 near perfect clear ice cubes, and 1 over expanded cloudy ice cube. Those 3 usable cubes will have slight marring at the bottom where the drain holes probably interfere with a clean flow of trapped air bubbles. For most users, this is a great experience, and the system is really compact so minor flaws are just fine with me. I've churned out 12 cubes in a couple of days which suits my needs fine. All left over ice (bottom reservoir and over-expanded cube) has lots of clear areas that can be chipped into chunky mixing ice.The downside side is the over-expansion of that one compartment, which if it happens regularly, cuts the ice yield but again - perfectly usable for mixing instead of cloudy small cubes. I think this happens because with multiple compartments, ice expansion during freezing needs an escape route, and the least frozen compartment gets the overflow, rather than being spread across the entire surface area.Removal requires a 4-5 minute soak of the inner white container in warm (not boiling) water from the tap. Easily removed thereafter, and bagged for later. All in all, if you need a compact system with a reasonable yield, this is perfect. If you need absolute perfection and greater yield, you're going to need a cooler, more space in the freezer, and an idea of how to cut ice to size.

Exceeds expectations!
Very pleased with this little addition to the home bar.First trial run was something of a mistake on my part, so I'm expecting even better results next time, when I've used it properly.I used plain tap water, unfiltered in a reasonably hard water area and mistakenly left it in the freezer for around 30 hours, instead of 24. That said, the results were very good. Three cubes came out almost completely clear, one had overexpanded (I guess due to excessive freezing). The small amount of colouration on the three good ones was generally at the bottom of the cube and could be rinsed/scraped off.I'm really very pleased with this. The quality is very good, rubber inserts are a decent grade and the overall fit into the foam tray is snug. Very snug, in fact, so do give it a good rinse to release when you're ready to get the cubes out.Not the cheapest of items for essentially an ice cube tray... But if you're wanting to upgrade your cocktail ice, I would certainly take a look at this.

Crystal clear Ice in a compact form factor
I can't really fault this ice tray for producing clear ice. I would say it is quite easy to use but just takes a bit of patience.I followed the instructions and it produced almost entirely clear ice! I only had couple of small impurities at the bottom of my cubes, but that isn't the trays fault, rather my freezer probably needs making slightly less cold. I think that may be why others here complained, their freezer must be turned down way too low. Directional freezing is a slow process, the whole point is to freeze the water slowly to push impurities into the reservoir below, do that too quickly and the impurities will get trapped.I second another reviewer's recommendation of using water that's been boiled then cooled as this will help remove some of the impurities in your tap water prior to freezing.

Good if you use the extra foam from packaging
Like other reviews I found the mould only works properly when it is placed in the freezer inside of the foam packaging.I also found a noticeable improvement using filtered water vs tap water.Using this method it does work well and produces clear cubes. The foam packaging fits the blue outer layer snugly and is adds about a centimetre and a half to all sides and the bottom.

Great fun, great results
I have had great fun with this item since I got it. I run a mobile cocktail bar and ice is a big deal. The use is really easy but you need to make sure you leave it out the freezer for 20 mins once frozen to make it a little easier to get the ice out or the old under the hot tap for a few minutes, highly recommend as ice is clear and a great size for old fashioneds, negronis etc.
