Good Arguments, Terrible Writing
Zacharias is a gifted Christian apologist and presents some effective arguments, but his writing is terrible. As an AP English teacher, I've been pulling sentences from this book to use as negative examples of effective writing. The students condense and simplify lines such as these: "Had the breadth of such anguished questioning been articulated from my native soil, it would have been understandable, for Indian culture has never been reticent to voice the tragedy that life portends" and "I once had a professor who creatively articulated the various philosophical postures on this subject" and "But I must state at the outset that before we can find the solution to this quest for life’s meaning we must first engage in a serious scrutiny of the question itself." (To be clear, for example, we don't need to "engage in a serious scrutiny," we need to scrutinize/study/examine the question.) Zacharias does exactly what I teach my kids NOT to do - he uses too many words, too many run-on sentences, and too many "fancy" words to articulate ideas that could be stated much more directly and simply. He seems to be desperate to remind us of his advanced education. I would love to take my red grading pen to his manuscripts before publication.

This has to be Dr. Ravi Zacharies' Magnum Opus
What can I say about Ravi that has not already been said by some of the greatest minds in the Christian faith. Here in this audio book is the original lectures Ravi gave at two universities. He gives well reasoned answers to life's most challenging question "Can ma live without God". His lectures are more valuable and in need to be heard today more than ever before. The times are changing fast all around us as our morals fail in every sense of the word "fail". There is no longer a restraining arm on scientist who are even now engineering human/pig fetuses. Knowledge without God becomes a very cruel weapon for humanity...but the gospel of Jesus is a very real solution as it has been for every generation in the past. The Gospel is the last but not the least of Ravi's powerful lectures. You must listen to this audio version in addition to buying the book because the book does not contain some of his discussions during his lectures. You will enjoy both the book and the audio book, I have and I bought extra copies to give away.Brother Albert

Outstanding Argument
My first book by Ravi Zacharias. I saw him on TV and thought I'd give it a shot. I'm not disappointed. The Author does an outstanding job of defining the subject. The book is well written. I didn't find it an easy read, very deep at times and not a quick read. That said, he lays out the argument for God as well as I've seen. There's a logic to his writing and he draws outstanding conclusions. Lots of thought required here.

Can Man Live Without God exceeded my expectation.
This book is a must read for those who may question God's existence or His relevance. It is also a must read for those who are firmly convinced that God exists and relevant but feel overwhelmed and unable to articulate "the why they believe" into meaningful conversation. Ravi goes beyond "I think, I believe, I feel God exists or "I think, I believe, I think, I feel" God doesn't exist. He sets up rules for debate so that one doesn't circle and never come to a conclusion.

Excellent
If I had to recommend one book to either a believer or a skeptic on the topic of God, this would be it. Dr.Zacharias does a masterful job of tactfully unpacking the realities of God and His very real and logically sound existence, as well as putting an end to myths and misunderstandings that many intellectual cynics have used to dismiss God as nothing more than another Tooth Fairy or Santa Claus. Only the hardest of scoffers could possibly read this very eloquent and thought provoking argument and not at the very least consent to the possibility.

The book is informative and most of all it does ...
The book is informative and most of all it does not contradict the Bible in adressing the moral decay of man and the ever increasing " in your face " behavior of the arts and the media. I am reading the book for the second time in a month. I cannot read such eye-opening literature and just put it down and walk away---It requires an immediate second reading so that "intellectual digestion" occurs.

and approached "Can man live without God" more like a college text book than a novel meant for ...
this book by Ravi Z. is a compelling look at the human condition as it relates to our natural inclination to reach out spiritually to the creator. I would encourage readers to not "skim" through this book, you will miss too much. personally I had to read it in spurts with highlighter in hand, and approached "Can man live without God" more like a college text book than a novel meant for entertainment. I plan on re-reading it again in a couple of weeks. Highly recommended even if you are not religious, as it forces you to open up and examine your assumptions. Can man live without God? sure you can! but your life and the quality of your interactions and relationships with others on this blue marble will be greatly enhanced by embracing the precepts expounded in this book. peace!

A Superb And Important Book
In 'Can Man Live Without God', Dr. Ravi Zacharias explores what he calls 'the greatest question of our time' - Can Man Live Without God.It is written for those who are avowedly antitheistic as well as those 'who functionally live as if there were no God and his existence does not matter'.The author is a philosopher and addresses the question in that manner. He looks at two further questions in answering the main question. These are: 'Does God Exist?' and 'if he does, what is his character or nature?'Regarding the philosophical questions, he looks at them on three levels. First is the level of theory or the scholarly approach. The second level of philosophy is where questions are addressed in the arts, and the third is 'the kitchen table'. He said that in these questions one must 'argue at level one, ilustrate at level two, and apply at level three'.In addition to exploring the philosophical questions, the author looks at the practical applications of theism and antitheism and the results of each. He also examines some of the historical and other evidence for Christianity. If one is interested in looking at issues such as the meaning of life and the other big questions, this is a great place to start.

A brilliant exposition by a Christian who really knows his philosophy
A brilliant exposition by a Christian who really knows his philosophy. A must for those who are interested in Christian apologetics. In the appendix the author gives brief but incisive critiques of several philosophers from Hume and Locke though to Russell. I needed to read some of this book twice, but it was well worth the effort.

A very good reflection on meaning and purpose of human being through the lens of the evangelical Christian faith.

Not for the shallow!
Zacharias is one of the most searching thinkers of our age. His laberinthine search for truth is well worth the journey - he knows the way if you have the patience. Definitely not for the shallow!
