Revelation (The Revelation Series Book 1)

Amateur writer at best
This kind of book is the epitome of a guilty pleasure, but one that may keep you rolling your eyes at the bad writing. While the romance, action, and mythical lore is fun, the writing of the book is mediocre at best. The author comes across as a teenage girl writing fan fiction. She plays on every trope imaginable, and created a female lead character that seems perfect in every way. Can you say boring and predictable? The female lead is beautiful, but doesn't realize it, clever and funny (or rather she says things that aren't funny, but the author has every character laugh at her wit to convince us she's funny), and every guy loves her, whether romantically or as a sister. Another way in which the author seems like a young amateur fan-girl writer is the way she dumps details on you with poor exposition, and describes the physical attributes of every character to you. Did we really need to sit through a scene where 4 female friends get ready to go to a club and we have to hear every detail of how each one did their makeup, hair, and outfit? Really?!Sometimes the situations the character gets in and the way she reacts seems very unrealistic to me. For example (no spoilers), in one scene where she barely knows her future love interest, he picks her up when she falls on the ground and sets her in his lap with her legs wrapped around his torso. She's facing him, straddling him, and he says "let's talk." and she acts like that's a normal thing for a strange man to do. I was like "What?!" what kind of girl would just go with the flow like it's normal for a stranger to force your legs to wrap around him and sit groin to groin while you "talk." It was obvious that the author was trying to create a steamy situation, but it was just weird and forced. I can't get past the obviousness and predictability from this writer. In short, if you want a guilty pleasure read where you don't mind rolling your eyes at terrible methods of giving us character description, like "My cheeks are wet, most likely from the tears that escaped my hazel eyes." then have fun with this. If you want a well written book from an experienced author, that keeps you excited to read more, don't bother with this one.

Good story and characters
First, let's clear something up - this book is not pornographic. There is nothing more than a few kisses. Hot kisses yes, but that's it. That said, there is a strong element of "romance novel" to this book with lots of yearning, blushing and hot flashes every time a good looking guy shows up but that's it. I'm not a fan of that genre, so I was a little turned off by that but not because it was pornographic. What I liked was the story and the characters. You can forgive pretty much anything if an author can pull that off. And she did. I also liked that even though this was part of a series, it was a book in itself. There was no cheesy cliff hanger at the end. Yes, I want to know more about what's going to happen but this book has a beginning, middle, and end. That's important to me.There were things I didn't like about the book. First I thought the author didn't stay true to the first person narrative style. There were times when the main character described something about herself that only a third party could have observed. I also thought the main characters description of herself early in the book was so badly written I almost stopped reading. Finally, the writing was not what I would call lean. There were unnecessary descriptions, flowery adjectives and pointless dialogue. But despite its flaws, I liked it , I recommend it, and I will buy the next book.

How to save $5.97
So if you have kindle unlimited the first book Revelation is free. I suggest you read to see if you like it. And then if you do, buy the box set with all 5 books for $9.99. If you buy the additional 4 at the current price of $3.99 each you will spend $15.96. I haven't read past the first book yet but I decided I like it enough to buy the rest.I admit I am a bit on the fence when it comes to 3 or 4 stars. More so on the 4 stars. The story is good. But as I saw someone else mention in a review it has moments that seem pointless. Same as that other reviewer said I didn't see the point of going into such great detail about how a group of girls go about doing a their hair and makeup for a night out to the extent that it did. A few brief paragraphs would have sufficed.I also feel as if the main character seems a bit too naive and liked by all. But I can see where this is a way that she may evolve throught the books. It gives us a chance to watch her grow from a young sheltered girl into the destiny she is fated.Overall the story was good enough to make me want to keep reading. I don't like giving a plot description, you can get that from the book description yourself. Sorry it's a bit of a pet peeve for me when it comes to other reviews but I'm not putting that down, As others like those reviews. And I don't give spoilers if I can help it. So like I suggested in the beginning, try the first book then buy the box set if you want to keep reading!

YA fiction
Unless you're a teenage girl this is gonna drive you crazy (and I don't mean any offence by that as plenty of teenage girls may dislike it too). For me, as with several books I've read in the last few years, this is another series using Twilight as its template. We have our "Edward" character blowing hot and cold and doing the old "you and I can't be" in a menacing tone. And Eve is doing the old "I don't like wearing dresses" and panting when he looks at her. I'm only about 15% in (at which point I'm going to give up) and I've read enough of all this "I need to get my hormones in check...I'm acting like a crazy fangirl".Meanwhile we have 3 annoying room mates (with names like Aria and Asher) who flip their hair and obsess over clothes (which meant I was always going to struggle with this one).Apologies to the author that I can't give it more of a go....but, although I do occasionally quite enjoy this genre, this one is just a bit too girly for me. It's been a while since I've been a girl.

Unreadable
Really sorry to the author, but I found this unreadable. I couldn't sit there and roll my eyes any longer. I really was hoping for a more 'adult' paranormal romance - as in one that revolves around adults that act like adults. Perhaps that's my fault for misreading what this was when I bought it. I am strongly opposed to books in which a female character's innocent/virginal nature is held up as making her better than her 'promiscous friends'. I don't think that's a good message to send to young girls at all. Also, Eve isn't just 'innocent' - she's personality-less, unless you count 'gets super offended and says something dumb whenever the hot guy speaks to her' as a personality, and she's also naive to the point of stupidity - if you can't tell that a guy who owns an Aston Martin might be super rich, I'm not sure how you got into university at all. The book's tone also seemed to support the idea that being super rich is also something that makes someone superior/worthy of awe and respect, and at that point I just couldn't read any more. I'm sure this was just written for the money/to latch on to the Twilight audience, but author, I'm sure you can write better than this. Please do.

An amazing 1st book to what's evidently gonna be an amazing series ๐
Omg this book was amazing, I loved it. I had previously read The Royal Protector Series which takes place after The Revelation series and only come across The Revelation series by chance which I'm so glad as it was really good to find out how Asher and Eve met and how their story began. This story is full of action that won't leave you bored but will leave you hungry for more. The humor in this book made me literally LOL at times. I love Asher and Eves connection/relationship but if I was Eve I would be infuriated at how many mixed signals he gives. Eves best friend Aria is hilarious and I love her little sassy outbursts and her personality and she is just the good honest friend that everyone needs. Will definitely be reading the other books in the series.

A literture journey has begun
This is the first book I had read immediately after my degree and academic books. It was a new genre for me, opening up the world of fantasy and paranormal literature. The story captured me from the start, wondering how the story would unfold. The way that Randi wrote the characters, I could imagine how the dynamics between each character played out. The relationship between Eve and Asher is electric, sizzling with each touch and kiss. Reading the book, it reminded me how I can get lost in the scene. To me that is a sign of a good author. I immediately downloaded the next book and the next until I had read the whole series.I would recommend this book to anyone who love a good story, romance, good versus evil.

A Totally Fascinating Read!! ๐
A Totally Intriguing Read!! ๐This book was a fascinating & intriguing read for me. I enjoyed all of the characters even the bitchy McKenna ๐Eve has begun to settle into her new College life & has made a brilliant best friend in her roommate, Aria. If only her nightmares would stop waking her, Aria & their other two dorm mates, Abby & McKenna, up!! ๐ณ These nightmares have been plaguing her for months though.Over time Eve meets a stunningly sexy guy called Gage who causes butterflies to take over her tummy but she also meets Asher!! Asher is so beautiful to look its almost ridiculous. He talks her in circles & flumoxes her constantly, much to her embarrassment. When the two guys meet & she's there it's clear very quickly they know each & aren't happy to see one another!! ๐ณThis is at times heartbreaking, I cried ๐ญ But it's a fascinating read with a huge story arc that really gripping. I'm going to get stuck straight in to the rest of the series ๐ Loving it ๐Debbie, 1970, UK
