Making Health Policy (Understanding Public Health)

I purchased this book for a health policy class I took as part of a master's in public health program. I've read a lot of policy books and documents in my time and know the subject matter can be dry (even for someone who is interested in the topic). But this book was surprisingly easy to read and gave clear explanations for the many theoretical terms and analytic frameworks it went over. It uses a lot of real world examples to illustrate its points. It gives a broad overview of the different actors, frameworks, and decision-making factors that going into creating policy, with a specific focus on health policy. I enjoyed reading this book and felt it conveyed useful information for those wanting an overview of how policies are developed.

It is a course I am currently studying and the content is just what I needed. I would recommend it to my course mates.

This book provides an excellent critical perspective on global health policy with international case examples. Also the references allow further exploration of the issues discussed. It certainly enriched my understanding of health policy.

This was a required book for a course I took. The course was good, but it's difficult learning health policy from a textbook. There's a lot of good overview of frameworks and theories, but the actual theoretical texts from which the frameworks are derived are not included, and are probably the more important thing to read.

Ive had some great teaching from one of the authors but wanted a book to consolidate my learning so plumped for this.It clearly and simply sets out what is potentially a difficult subject for those of us new to this area. Not overly academic for the sake of it but plenty of references for further reading. I wholly recommend this book!

This another readable and accessible text to support course which I lead and on which I teach. Comes recommended for all levels.

Some very interesting concepts , particularly 'politics as usual'.

Easy to grasp. Masters students level. Offers a flower from every garden.
