Understanding Children's Development 5th Edition

I agree with reviews above: it is a VERY comprehensive review of much of the research out there on child development, from birth to adolescence. It covers major theorists, major steps in different kinds of development (from emotional to moral to language, etc) However, they were very indiscriminate with the research that they chose to include. Sometimes, the chapter would include paragraph after paragraph describing an experiment, only to negate it by describing its many faults in a small disclaimer at the end of the unit. This bothered me to no end. There was also no rhyme and reason to the order of the sections in each chapter; I think some basic outlining could have helped them in the organization of each chapter.A valuable source, but frustrating to follow.

it's a fantastic book I purchased it for topping up my dissertation as I needed to discuss child development and it gave me more information than I expected I would strongly recommend this for social work students

a very good source book for learning child development and early years. the only problem I had with it was that the pages are really thin, but saying that none have torn. reminded me of a really thick informative magazine.but if you can get over that trivial thing it is a great book for theorists

A basic book that guides you, with recent research and will guide you to more detailed journals and research, this is a must have!
